Phoenix heat is rising
May 19th 2009
As the UK sits under rain and the heavy clouds that mark Wimbledon, the homeless of Phoenix, Arizona, USA, are suffering its annual heat wave. The summer of 2005 - when more than 30 people, mostly homeless, died from the heat - is still raw in city officials' minds, and they have responded with patrols deploying water stations and setting up cooling sites. The Salvation Army expects to hand out 200,000 bottles of water and is working with the authorities.
