See Me? I’m a prisoner

September 10th 2015

A new project, aimed at helping prison staff understand the stigma of mental health problems, has been designed by people with experience of prison life.

The ‘Seeing the Person, Seeing Ourselves’ project is working in HMP Edinburgh, helping staff to better support prisoners with mental health issues.

It is being led by arts company Theatre Nemo and funded by See Me, a Scottish programme to end mental health discrimination.

Recent figures show nearly three-quarters of Scotland’s prison population will experience mental health issues.
