New resource for job seekers

April 20th 2017

The Poverty Leadership Panel at Glasgow City Council has released a pocket-sized resource for local homeless job seekers.

Scottish Housing News reported that the leaflet aims to overcome problems with people being put in the wrong categories when claiming Job Seekers Allowance.

Some applicants do not tell the Job Centre that they are homeless even when they are sofa-surfing or staying in a homeless unit, because they think the question applies only to people who are sleeping rough.

As a result, many homeless job seekers are not being given the 'easement' treatment they are entitled to, which relaxes the Job Centre's strict demands for receiving benefit payments.
