American Bessie Mae Berger, the 97-year-old who was living in her car in Los Angeles, has died.
The nonagenarian, whose story we covered in the London edition of The Pavement (‘Drive thru homeless, December 2009, London and online) died in hospital at the end of January. She had been in temporary accommodation since being discovered living in her 1973 Chevrolet Suburban with her two sons.
