Wiltshire man who was days away from being evicted remanded for killing a fellow resident A homeless man who was days away from being evicted from a hostel has been charged with murdering a young dad. Daniel Thomas De Costa, 30, has been charged with knifing to death 34-year-old Matthew Baggott in Devizes, Wiltshire. Matthew, who had a 12-year-old son called James, died after receiving eight stab wounds to his stomach, neck and back. Taxi driver Steve Paul, who was one of the last people to see De Costa before the murder, said: "He told me he was being evicted and that he was going to doss around for a couple of days and then go travelling. He seemed alright, I've seem him before. "He's a nice, funny bloke and quite intelligent. But he's one of those people - everything goes wrong for him." A spokesman for West Wiltshire District Council, which owns the hostel, confirmed De Costa was due to be evicted at the end of last week. Matthew's son James said: "If ever I needed to learn to ride my bike or anything like that, Dad was always there. We know he wasn't perfect, but he had a good heart and I will miss him forever." Matthew's body was found close to the town hall in Devizes, Wiltshire on September 6th. De Costa was remanded in custody and will attend another hearing at the court on November 9th.
