Coffin carried through Totnes

December 10 2012
Rough sleeper gets a rousing send-off from friends and acquaintances

A coffin was carried through the Devon town of Totnes on 29 November, as a ‘street funeral’ for a local homeless man who died during a hail storm earlier in the month.

Michael Gething, a 42-year-old rough sleeper, died outside the Methodist church in the town on 4 November, and was the fifth homeless man to die in the town in the last year.

His coffin was carried through the town by around 40 friends and local residents, and a local Big Issue vendor, Graham Walker, carried out a 28-hour vigil.
