Criminal Record Office checks and move-ons

May 18 2009
Move-ons date back to 1997, if not earlier, according to a reader Sir, I'm surprised that their have been so many articles about the move on policy before the count, this has been happening as far back as 1997, maybe even further. I was once told to move by a police officer back in 1997, when I was moved along with other people in Victoria. It was policy to do this before a count was done. And in all the years I was on the street I saw this many times. It is also policy now to get rid of the homeless in places such as the Strand and other main areas because of the forthcoming Olympic games. That's why so many are stopped by the police and are CRO [Criminal Record Office check] and are then told to move on. Ian Wells By email Dear Mr Wells, Thank you for your email. A number of readers have expressed a similar view; that it's old news and that they have no hope of the situation changing. However, as we go to the printers we'll be meeting with an MP, and a story like this is worth pursuing even if the hope of change is slim. We'll continue to publicise the situation. Editor
