Work training for 'vulnerable'

May 11 2014
100 homeless people set to benefit from new scheme

A new pilot scheme run by St Mungo's Broadway and Crisis will give the most vulnerable homeless people training that the charities hope will get them back into work, Housing Minister Kris Hopkins and Skill Minister Matthew Hancock have announced.

The London STRIVE (Skills, Training, Innovation and Employment) pre-employment programme will initially help 100 single homeless people over two years. It will help 50 of the most disadvantaged each year to develop their knowledge of basic maths, English and IT.

St Mungo's Broadway will also work with clients at the charity's skills and employment centre in London where projects include job coaching, CV writing workshops, business start-up support, IT skills and literacy groups.

STRIVE will work alongside JobcentrePlus to identify those who would benefit most from the scheme.
