Homeless remembrance

December 02 2014
In memory of 149 names were read out who died in the past year...

Homeless people who have died in London over the last year were remembered at an annual ‘Service of Commemoration’ last month.

The service, organised by Housing Justice and The Connection, took place at St Martin-in-the-Fields.

In total, 149 names were read out, including homeless and formerly homeless people, as well as staff and volunteers of various homeless shelters and charities.

Rev Richard Carter said: “A hundred years ago, Dick Sheppard opened up St Martin’s to those returning from the front line [..] to remember and come to terms with all those who had died so tragically.

“At this service, we will remember those who have died in the last year who have been homeless or known homelessness. Their stories also need to be remembered and heard.”
