Glasgow charity faces cuts

December 02 2014
Mental health charity is fighting proposed 40 per cent funding costs

A Glasgow mental health charity is fighting proposals by the city council to cut its funding by 40 per cent.

Glasgow Association for Mental Health (GAMH) says the cuts would be “devasting”, with union officials claiming that they could drive the charity’s vulnerable service users to crisis point.

Amongst the vulnerable people who make use of the support services and projects are many who have experience of – or been threatened with – homelessness.

Protests against the cuts have been held. Deborah Dyer, Unison regional organiser, told Third Force News: “Saving lives is too important to be turned into a political football and we need Glasgow’s councillors to stand up and do what we elected them to do – it’s time for action not words.”
