Parking meters help support homeless people in Indianapolis
Can parking meters help to support homeless people? In Downtown Indianapolis yes, they can.

City authorities have started a new programme, which is helping approximately 8,000 rough sleepers in the city.

The Know Outlets campaign, run by the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention, put parking meters with the inscription “donate here” in the area of Downtown businesses.

The money collected will go to street outreach teams whose task is to provide food, supplies and services to homeless people. “The teams are made up of people from 16 different organisations,” Jennifer Hunt, a spokeswoman for CHIP told USA Today. “They include police, non-profits and health and medical professionals.”

At the moment, 10 meters are are in operation, and 15 others are going to be installed.
