King George refurb launched

May 04 2015
Just in time for its 90th birthday...

King George’s has just completed a major refurbishment in time to celebrate its 90th anniversary.

The hostel, which is due to launch its make-over next month, has long been subject to rumours of closure, which management said is due to the building work around its premises.

Originally built on the site of a soup kitchen by Church Army to house over 300 men, King George’s has been run by Riverside, a UK housing provider.

It is home to 68 men who have previously slept rough in Westminster and has had a make-over worth £500K, with new bathrooms and showers, top to bottom redecoration, a new training kitchen and self-catering kitchens for residents.

Riverside’s manager, Steve Davies, said: “This a clear indication from both Riverside and Westminster that we have invested in the project. This is because we are looking at its long-term provision of housing and specialist support by investing in the building.”
