Company to turn one of its buildings into a temporary shelter

It’s famous for using tax havens, but now online retail giant Amazon hopes to provide havens – for homeless families in its hometown of Seattle. According to a report in TIME magazine, the company has teamed up with non-profit organisation Mary’s Place to turn one of its own buildings in Seattle into a temporary shelter – ahead of demolition next year.

Amazon has also launched a page on its website in where people can purchase items for the homeless families staying at Mary’s Place. The most recent street count in Seattle reportedly counted 4,505 people – an increase of 19 per cent on last year’s rough sleeping figures.
