Scottish homelessness “badge of shame”

October 05 2016
A majority of the population thinks the government could do more

Housing charity Shelter Scotland commissioned a poll which found that 54 per cent of Scottish people think the government could do more to help the country’s homelessness problem.

The charity is launching a new drive to improve housing and support people who have lost, or are losing, their homes, telling the Scotsman that in the past year nearly 30,000 households became homeless and more than 65,000 people asked for housing support from their local authorities.

A Scottish Government spokesman said it supports the campaign and is doing “everything it can” to make sure everyone has access to a warm and safe place to stay.
