Young homeless people failed by local councils in England

December 05 2016
A third have been turned away unaided.

Youth homelessness charity Centrepoint have reported that only 67 per cent of homeless people aged 16 to 24 have been receiving assistance from their local authority.

The remaining 33 per cent of young homeless people who approached their local councils for help appear to have been turned away unaided due to disappearing from the records of the 260 English councils who released statistics in response to a Freedom of Information request.

More than 150,000 people aged 16 to 24 approach local councils across the UK every year to seek help due to homelessness or risk of homelessness, the Evening Standard reported.
