The real Ladykillers

May 21 2009
Two female pensioners have appeared in a US court charged with drugging and then running over their victims Two female pensioners have appeared in a US court charged with murdering two homeless men. Helen Golay, 77, and Olga Rutterschmidt, 75, have been accused of drugging and then running over their victims in order to cash in life insurance policies. The women are said to have befriended their victims at a LA church group and put them up in apartments. The court heard that they hired security guards to watch the men and took out life insurance policies in their names, before sedating and killing them with a car bought especially for the grisly deed. A senior detective on the case described it as "one of the most sinister and evil plots I have ever seen." After the alleged murders - which police initially thought were hit and runs - the women are said to have collected $2.3m (£1.2m) in insurance. The victims of the pensioners' alleged plot were named as Paul Vados, 73, and Kenneth McDavid, 50, who were killed in 1999 and 2005 respectively. The defendants have pleaded not guilty.
