Attacker sentenced

May 18 2009
Two counts of GBH for man who injured two fellow rough sleepers earlier this year A man has been sentenced by an Old Bailey judge to four years' imprisonment for attempted murder, following an attack on two fellow rough sleepers in their shelter near Southwark Bridge earlier this year. A spokesperson for Bishopsgate police confirmed that homeless Barry Blake, aged 49 at the time of the arrest, has pleaded guilty to two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, and was charged on 14th June, with no eligibility for parole beforehand. As previously reported by The Pavement, Blake was arrested when he walked into the police station and confessed to carrying out the attack on rough sleepers Lionel and Peter in the early hours of 11th January. The pair had been taken to The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. Lionel was discharged a few hours later, but Peter, who had more serious injuries, was treated for a couple of days.
