Thames Reach, Blenheim partner up

September 26 2009
Partnership stops short of a merger The credit crunch is hitting charities in the UK hard, as fewer people can afford to donate and big corporations reduce charity fundraising as part of cost-cutting initiatives. But reduced funding does not have to mean closure, as two London-based homeless organisations have demonstrated. Thames Reach and drug support agency Blenheim CDP have formed a partnership that will involve sharing office space, but stops short of a merger. The charities have signed a document called a 'memorandum of understanding' to form the partnership but will remain autonomous organisations and retain independence. As well as sharing office space, they will work together on training and developing expertise with the aim of improving their services and efficiency. "We've had a lot of value out of cross-fertilising ideas,‚Äö?Ñ?? said John Jolly, chief executive of Blenheim. The two organisations decided to form the partnership after working on a collaborative project for substance abuse amongst rough sleepers. Such measures will no doubt save the charities money, but Thames Reach said the decision was not the result of any financial difficulty on either side. There will be no staff cuts among Thames Reach's 400-strong workforce or Blenheim 160 staff members.
