The 999 Club has a royal visitor The 999 Club and its day centre in Deptford had a royal guest on 10th September. For nearly an hour, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall spoke with staff and day centre regulars, particularly those who'd been helped by the centre in the past. Johnson Babu, 53 years old and originally from Kenya, told Her Royal Highness that he had been on the streets in 2007, but that after the 999 Club took him into their night shelter, he had found his feet and is now in a flat and working. A spokeswoman for Clarence House, the official residence of the Duchess, told The Pavement: "It was a wonderful visit. Her Royal Highness really enjoyed learning about the work of the 999 Club and meeting the dedicated team that runs it. The Club offers assistance and reassurance to some of the most vulnerable members of our community and they must be commended on all that they do."
